So no matter where you go, it is somewhat vital that you catch up with the latest movie trend around the world. Million-dollar blockbusters are made to be enjoyed. And in Ha Noi, we have places where you can do just that. You things to do
in hanoi? There aren’t many cinemas within the Old Quarter, so we’ll just look at some of the cinemas around Ha Noi Old Quarter. Here is the list of popular cinemas around Ha Noi Old Quarter where you can catch the hottest films from the box office.
CGV
The first modern cinema in Ha Noi. This is the cinema that attracts customers of high caliber. This place often hosts red carpet events for the hottest silver screen celebrities from viet nam. People who come here expect high standard, and the price will match that standard. Everything in CGV is expected to be of excellent quality, but its cost can sometimes be too expensive. Because of this, CGV only attracts people of the upper class nowadays.
The CGV movie theaters in Ba Trieu Vincom and Son Tay Mipec Tower are relatively close to town center. There is another CGV in Ho Guom Plaza on Nguyen Trai. But that is definitely not one of the cinemas around Ha Noi Old Quarter.
Platinum Cineplex
Times City and Royal City are newly established urban areas that can be called “small cities inside Ha Noi”. Inside these cities, there are Platinum Cineplex theaters. These are modern looking cinemas that come with similar quality to CGV, but cost less. And because of that, Platinum Cineplex has become the number one chain of cinemas in the hearts of Ha Noi citizens.
Besides Times City and Royal City, there are 2 other Platinum Cineplex theaters in Ha Noi, one in Vincom Long Bien Shopping Center and the other in The Garden Shopping Center. Their quality is the same as others’ but the price is marginally cheaper. However, that is not the case since these theaters are situated in the outskirts part of town.
August Cinema
The first cinema in Ha Noi is now the only cinema within the Old Quarter. This is where people from previous generations go to see movies. Nowadays, despite the effort being put in to improve the quality and the appearance, it is difficult for August Cinema to compete against CGV and Platinum – brands that are supported by overseas forces. Still, it is still enjoyable to make your way to Hang Bai street and catch a movie in August Cinema.

The National Cinema Center
The true movie theater for people from all walks of life. The National Cinema Center is funded by Vietnamese Government to create a movie theater that provide excellent box office services for the people of Vietnam at the most affordable cost. And it does just that. The quality of the National Cinema Center is acceptable. However, there are some downfalls.
Because it is run by government parties, there are certain restrictions, and after credits are rarely shown. So enjoying a movie to the fullest isn’t always the case in the National Cinema Center
The National Cinema Center is located in the corner of Thai Ha and Lang Ha streets, quite qualified as one of the cinemas around Ha Noi Old Quarter.
Lotte Cinema
A chain of movie theaters owned by the South Korean Lotte Corporation. From personal experience, I would recommend coming here more than I would for other movie theaters. The quality in Lotte Cinema is slightly better than the rest. The food and drink are not as good, but I come to the movie to enjoy the movie. The price in Lotte Cinema is basically half of which in CGV, even less if you take into account the food and drink.
So if it is that good, should everybody be heading there? And should CGV be going bankrupt? Nope. Because there are currently only 2 Lotte Cinemas in Ha Noi, both of them are located in the outskirts area of Ha Noi. One in the Me Linh Plaza, Ha Dong District, the other in the Landmark Tower, Tu Liem District. Most of their customers are students from nearby universities. Surprisingly, the 65-story Lotte Tower does not have room for a Lotte Cinema, which breaks the hearts of many young film enthusiasts (in 2015).
